Smokey Rewalt

d. August 30, 2022

Vicksburg

Smokey, also known as “Little Dude” was one of four kittens that emerged from a brush fire in the year 2004. Smokey, Blaze, Scorch, and Cobra then explored the countryside in formation, appearing like kittens on parade. Blaze and Scorch were relocated to their forever home, while Smokey and Cobra were taken in by the homeowners where the brush fire occurred. Sadly, Cobra was hit by a car and did not survive. Smokey was heartbroken and never returned to his owner’s house. He chose his forever home with the Rewalt family.

Smokey was a textbook example of an independent cat. He not only chose his home, but chose when he wanted to visit his people. Being an excellent hunter and outdoorsman type, he would sometimes disappear for weeks on end on some wild adventure. There were many occasions where Smokey would return home with some new type of bite or injury, so his people would always take him to get fixed up so he could enjoy his next escapade. Smokey showered his people with many “presents” of all varieties, once bringing back five different species as a welcome home gift when his humans returned from vacation. Smokey ruled this countryside, like a lion rules the savannah.

Secretly, Smokey was a giant lover underneath his alpha-cat exterior. He loved nothing more than getting his ears rubbed by his favorite people while drooling with approval. Smokey was not shy and would physically demand more affection if he wasn’t satisfied. He also loved sleeping on top of his favorite person through the night and stealing her spot during the day. Smokey detested the cold weather and made it well known to all around, constantly going in and out with high hopes that the sun would appear.

Smokey will be missed by all that knew him, and will remain in our hearts forever. After a wonderful 18 years, on August 30th, 2022, Smokey crossed the rainbow bridge to reconnect with his best friend, Pumpkin.

Rest In Peace, little dude.
